Sundernagar is located in Mandi District. It used to be the Capital of Suket State and is hardly 22-24 km from Mandi (South-west of mandi)towards Shimla.The fascinating beauty of this small town is embraced by the man-made lake produced by the waters of Beas-Sutlej Project. Things to explore in Sunder Nagar
Mahamaya Temple: Located on the hill top in the temple of the Mother Goddess. It is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year. It offers a panoramic view of the beautiful, elegant city.
Murari Devi Temple: The temple is on the most sacred hill of Sunder Nagar i.e. Murari Dhar. History says that the temple was built by Pandavas during their 'Agyatwas. It has rocks which are believed to have the footprints of the Pandavas.
Shukdev Vatika: There is an ancient cave in the garden dating back to Puranas. Legends say that Saint Sukhdev meditated at the place. The ancient cave leads to Haridwar, and it is believed that Rishi Sukhdev took a bath in the holy water of Ganges through the cave.
The Lake: The beautiful lake is a must visit attraction in Sunder Nagar. The lake reservoir lies in the heart of the town and is a part of BSL Project. The lake as made the small town more alluring as a tourist destination.
How To Reach
Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar about 57-km from Mandi.
Rail: The broad gauge railhead is at Pathankot, a distance of 210-km. From Pathankot the narrow gauge railway connects Joginder Nagar,which is 80-km from Sundernagar.
Road: 25 kms from Mandi is well connected by road to other places. The main bus stand is just above an open playing field, where the National Highway- 21 continues along the left bank of river to Pandoh.
