The bowl-shaped town of Chaukori, located in the state of Uttaranchal, is nestled within the Himalayas at the height of over 2010 meters above sea level. As a tourist destination, it offers many beautifully breathtaking views? be it the lusciously green tea gardens, or the majestic snow-capped peaks of Nanda Devi and Panchachuli, the peaceful sunrise and sunsets, and the bejewelled night skies with the light of a million stars.Chaukori is a lesser known tourist destination. Perched on a valley and surrounded by the high mountains of the Kumaon region, this village features nature's blissful landscapes, unpolluted and quiet. Chaukori is located at the Indo-Tibetan (in the north) and Indo-Nepal (in the south) boundaries. The scenic Greater Himalayan peaks of Nanda Kot,Panchchuli, Nanda Khat and Nanda Devi are visible from here.

Chaukori is one of those places that can become a part of your yearly escapades and detox your mind and body of the alienating metropolitan experiences. Or planning a day out, visiting the spiritual retreats that are the helm of the town. Chaukori lets you sit back and lets its scenery and hospitality do the talking. The advantage
of escaping to this place, which gets its maximum influx from Kolkata and Delhi, is that business is not the throbbing centre of everyone's existence. Life here, is something you take as it comes, with a cup of tea every morning, gazing at the snowcapped peaks and the unadulterated natural bounty.

Aside from this, Chaukori is in the vicinity of Gangolihat that is known for its Hindu temples. These temples have historical as well as spiritual significance. A drive to Chaukori on the hilly roads and passing through dense alpine to temperate forests is enthralling. The mountainous terrain is a perfect location for trekkers, nature trailers and skiers. The snow covered peaks look attractive from the village during the sunrise and sunset. The Mahakali River in the east of the village is a great site for river rafting.
